To be honest, we haven’t really delved deep into Dymatize products as much as we have with Optimum Nutrition. Nonetheless, you will get to decide which is the better one if you stick with this post right through to the end. The comparison will as usual be based on factors such as ingredients, taste, price and versatility. However, not all of these matter as much as the ingredients and the substance composition. Let us begin with a side by side look at the Dymatize vs Optimum Nutrition specs.
Dymatize vs Optimum Nutrition Specs
Dymatize | Optimum Nutrition

Every newbie’s supplement is the Optimum Nutrition whey protein, even for bulking the popular choice is the Serious Mass by Optimum Nutrition. The more advanced folk who want to get more defined tend to proceed with Dymatize ISO 100 because of the more refined hydrolyzed whey. Take a look at our post where we explain the detailed differences between the three types of whey. Now of course both the companies have many more products for fitness but these two are the well known ones.
Dymatize vs Optimum Nutrition: Ingredients and Nutrients
Dymatize | Optimum Nutrition
Fats | 1g | 1.5g |
Cholesterol & Sodium | 10mg & 180mg | 55mg & 130mg |
Carbs | 2g | 3g |
Protein | 25g | 24g |
These are the primary ingredients that concern us. Aside from these both the brands contain almost equal amounts of Calcium, Vitamin D, Potassium and Iron. The significant analysis lies with the protein. The Gold standard contains all three types, concentrate, isolate and hydrolysate with the inclination more towards concentrate. The Dymatize utilizes whey hydrolysate so that the bloodstream can absorb the protein when it’s most required, especially post workout. Both products contain lecithin, natural and artificial flavor. Gold standard also contains lactase and Aminogen as the digestive enzymes that very much aids the lactose intolerant people. The only other notable difference is the form of sweetener. In the case of Dymatize, it’s Sucralose whereas with Optimum Nutrition it is Acesulfame Potassium.
Both the products are tested and certified by the FDA. There were some past studies that indicate Acesulfame Potassium may affect blood sugar negatively. However, there has been no recent study about this and we can assume that it isn’t a concerning issue given how famous this protein is among all age groups. Most experts agree that having digestive enzymes is more user-friendly than having the most refined form of whey. However, if we are to consider a full nutrient profile in a scoop, Dymatize ISO 100 is slightly ahead due to the high protein and much lower cholesterol factor.
Taste and Mixability
As mentioned at the beginning of the post, I’ve stuck with Optimum Nutrition throughout and I’ve tried chocolate twice and strawberry once. I’ve enjoyed both the flavors, mostly with milk. It was quite easy to mix too and I used the shaker, never had to blend. However, others state that when mixed with water, it is not as pleasant and enticing. Dymatize ISO 100 on the other hand is sweeter and tastes better with water and with milk. Therefore, in terms of taste, Dymatize is the clear winner. It mixes well too, just like the whey.
Dymatize Elite 100% Whey Protein
Not researched much but worth a quick comparison. Arguably the Optimum Nutrition is one step ahead. But here are the specs of the Dymatize Elite 100% Whey Protein
- -67 servings per container, 140 calories per scoop
- -25g of protein
- -5.5g of BCAA & 11.7g of EAA
- -2g of carbs
- -95mg of Sodium & 75mg of Cholesterol
The rest is as usual. The only difference seems to be the numbers of the Cholesterol and Sodium concentration along with the total amount of calories per scoop. The protein blend consists of all three types of whey and not so much fixated on the hydrolysate. Although they don’t disclose the concentration of each protein type, pretty confident that most of it comes from the concentrated form just like that of optimum nutrition gold standard since it is cheaper than the ISO 100 by about $20.
General Customer Feedback On Both Products
Starting off with Dymatize, There wasn’t a single negative review to be found on Amazon with either the ISO 100 or the Elite Whey. Users love the ease of mixability, texture and the high quality. Especially complementing that they don’t feel bloated or nausea or any other side effects. So much so that one user reviewed that he had absolutely no problem taking this with just water on an empty stomach despite being lactose intolerant to a medium degree. Some say that it’s a little thick when mixed with milk, but that was just an observation not a complaint.
The reviews are almost the same as with gold standard except a few customers seemed to have received fake products. Other than that, well, it needs no special introduction being the number one selling supplement brand. The double chocolate and strawberry are the best selling ones out of all.
So there you go! Hope this guide was informative. Let us know which one you’ll choose to go with! I personally am an Optimum Nutritioner!
